Blue expedition is preparing for the world tour
theBlue shipping, an eco-citizen project
4 young engineers made a scientific bet, that of going around the world in 2 years aboard a sailboat Jeanneau, model Sun kiss of 14m bought, completely renovated and suitable for this trip. The goal is to study the environment of our oceans and to share crucial information to the younger generations as well as to the yachtsmen aware of their environment.
The project: In September 2022, from the Navy Service Port, the 4 scientists will take the wide direction the Atlantic Ocean, to cross the Panama Canal. Then head for the Pacific Ocean, to follow the Australian coast and cross the Indian Ocean to the Cape of Good Hope before heading for the Strait of Gibraltar.
Their profile:
Aurélia: The Captain
Sailing enthusiast since childhood and in search of surpassing oneself, she wants to share her passion while raising awareness among the general public about the protection of the oceans. She can rely on her skills as a pedagogical program manager to achieve this.
Thibault: The Scientist
Initiated by the Glénan and eager to rub shoulders with the oceans, he wishes to combine navigation and participatory research to contribute, on his scale, to the knowledge of marine pollution of the oceans. For this, he intends to take advantage of the skills acquired during his doctorate.
Théophile: the eco
Apprentice skipper, Théo wants to travel the world to better discover himself and show that it is possible to do it in a reasoned way. He will be keen to minimize the environmental impact of the project thanks to his mastery of eco-design and his background as a sustainable design engineer.
Vincent: the mechanic
A fan of sports cats and eager to discover the world, he wants to show that even in boating, being ecologists is not just doing the better, but above all adapting what we already have. It is he who coordinates the adaptation of the sailboat by relying on his qualities as a mechanical engineer.
Pleasure at the service of science
In addition to carrying a message eco-friendly, theBlue shipping propose themselves as a real scientific relay. On its journey the sailboat will pass through several marine areas. In the event that specific data needs exist in these areas, this expedition is an opportunity for researchers to Carry out surveys and/or samples campaigns, on a voluntary basis, to respond to local ecological issues.
The rest of this trip is intended to be fun and educational, with a clear message to convey to younger generations as well as to yachtsmen. Ecological commitment is everyone's business, our seas and oceans are a reflection of our responsibilities. This scientific relay is aimed at associations and organizations for research and ocean protection.
The Blue Expedition completely renovates a 1985 Sun Kiss 45
This 14m sailboat was dry for sale at Port Navy Service since 2015. The 4 volunteers of the association L'Expétion Bleue took charge of the entire refit of the boat. This Sun Kiss 45 was not ready to go around the world, but it took a real look at it thanks to the combination of economic, ecological, and eco-responsible reflections. Proving once again that the opportunity is not a second option, but a desire to restore its lifespan to a ship with a construction jeanneau remarkable. Conclusion, adaptation is the key point, meeting the needs of researchers, while respecting ecological constraints.
The main lines:
- Structural changes
- fairing and renovations of the hull and saffron
- Interior fittings re adapted
- Renovation of tanks and installation of new water and electricity networks
- Re-masting and reinstallation of navigation instruments and rigging
We will take pleasure in sharing all the tips for renovating your ship in an eco-responsible way, in collaboration with the Blue Expedition, in the coming months.
