Mating at Port Navy Service
Joseph Fricaud, the son of the founder of the META SITES He himself at the control of the site for many years had the idea of building a modernized replica of the famous Joshua by Bernard Moitessier.
Bernard Moitessier on Joshua has given the taste of the open sea and adventure to thousands of sailors since the 1960s. It is an entire page of our national maritime heritage that he was able to write with immense talent.
The mythical sailboat which celebrates the 50th anniversary of its prestigious predecessor was built at the request of Jospeh Fricaud for his daughter Nadine and his son-in-law Jean-Pierre who will also take the road to the open sea.
A replica yes but with a material that is easier to maintain than steel and a unique specialty of the site, aluminum "Strongall"
1,500 hours of work, on 12 mm thick aluminum, the StronGall®, or 12 tons including four of ballast, for 12 m long, not counting the 2 m long-out... These are the odds of this last Joshua, from an original plan by the naval architect Jean Knocker remodeled by
Bernard Nivelt associated with Michel Joubert, architects also of renown.
1,500 hours of work were necessary for Patrick Passinge, the boss of Meta, and his team to create this 12 m long and 3.74 m wide masterpiece.
carpentry-cabinetmaking vercher In Limas then made the interior fittings.
The idea of this sailboat replica
It was during a lunch that Ludovic Daim, head of the country's publishing, asked Joseph Fricaud, son of Jean, why he was not building a replica of the Joshua to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first copy. Joseph Fricaud, who had already produced 70, immediately adopted this idea with the hope of presenting it to the Grand Pavois in La Rochelle at the end of November and of bringing together as much Joshua as possible still sailing around the ketch of Moessier, property today of the Maritime Museum of La Rochelle.
The story of this mythical sailboat
The first Knocker-Moitessier meeting dates from 1960 at the Salon Boatic. The current flows. Jean Knocker proposes to draw the plans of the Joshua graciously, following the wishes of the skipper. Maurice Amiet, another renowned architect, offers Moitessier to send a copy of his book Vagabond from the South Seas to Jean Fricaud who has already built two boats to go fishing in the Mediterranean. “I read your book, come see me, I think we will fix it. This is Jean Fricaud's last sentence to the letter addressed to Moessier. Only 7,000 francs, this is the sum available to the navigator, money that will correspond to the factory price of the sheet. The manufacture of the Joshua will be at the expense of the manufacturer, the true patron of this legendary steel boat that was going to travel around the world without stopover and alone, the interior journey of a man in search of the absolute questioning the world and the stars.
